Company

Custom Data Systems, Inc. (CDS) was founded in 1985 by Mark Breen to provide custom FoxBase programming and database services to the local Richmond Virginia market. In 1988 the company contracted to convert the Virginia CPA Society’s DEC mini based membership system to a micro-based system, which in those days meant IBM 286’s.

In 1990, other CPA societies expressed interest and the rest -- as they say -- is history. CDS dubbed the package “The Association Manager”, Ver 1.0 (AM1), and committed 100% of its resources towards its development and sale to state CPA Societies.

We build and treasure our close relationships with our customers and are often considered more of an offsite developer team rather than an arm’s length vendor.

Larry Austin

CEO

Larry joined Custom Data Systems in July, 1993. His business experience includes 15 years in retail accounting and finance with a national department store chain. His various positions included Assistant Controller, Director of Inventory Control and Corporate Internal Auditor. In these capacities he had extensive responsibility for end-user computing and PC-based systems application development. In 1991, Larry returned to school, earning a baccalaureate certificate in Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University in May, 1993. He also has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration.

Philip Sayers

President

Phil joined Custom Data Systems in February 2006. Phil has been breaking & fixing family computers since he was 10 years old. He studied Accounting and Financial Management for two years at the University of Sheffield, England, and completed his education at Lynn University, Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Phil’s experience has included all aspects of office and business technology, from acquisition, equipment installation & maintenance, server and network administration and management, to database design and application development. Prior to working at Custom Data Systems, Phil designed, developed and maintained a large portfolio of clinical and medical billing databases and custom applications for a large mental health services provider and advocacy organization in Rhode Island.
